Welcome to Lanna MMA, a school dedicated to giving citizens in and around Vaughan a quality martial arts experience!

Established in 2005, Lanna MMA is Vaughan’s longest running Muay Thai Kickboxing (Thai Kickboxing) gym. Lanna is proud to be Vaughan’s leader in Martial Arts, offering world class instruction for both kids and adults. We are a curriculum based school, which means that the program/classes have been carefully designed to ensure maximum technical and fitness progression in students. The classes work on a four week rotating curriculum, with each week focusing on the development of different sets of integral skills/foundation. As students progress through the ranks, they attend higher level classes to ensure constant progression and development. The curriculum was developed by owner, Kru Jordan Kravitz and his instructor, Thai Kickoxing legend Ajahn Jovan Stojanovsky (Credited as the male foreigner with the most fights in Thailand). The curriculum is constantly being developed and improved to ensure the maximum progression of Muay Thai Kickboxing in our students.

History of Muay Thai Kickboxing:

Known as one of the oldest Martial Arts in the world, Thai Kickboxing has a very rich history. While there are accounts of people practicing the art back to 1697-1709 A.D., it became famous in 1774 by the “Father of Muay Thai” Nai Khanom Dtom. in 1774 Nai Khanom Dtom was captured when the Burmese invaded Thailand’s ancient capital of Ayuddhaya. The Burmese king was avid fighter connoisseur and had herd of Khanom Dtoms fighting skills and put out a challenge for him to fight his ten Burmese Boxers who he felt were had a superior fighting style. The Burmese king said that if he could take out all of the boxers, he would grant Nai Khanom Dtom and the Thai people freedom. Nai Khanom Dtom easily took out the ten Burmese boxers without even a pause. For the Thai people, the legend of Nai Khanom Dtom was born.

Today Thai Kickboxing is an integral part of the Thai culture. Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and celebrations such as festivals, holidays and the King/ Queens birthday are often celebrate with Muay Thai fights/demonstrations.
