Lanna MMA is going on its 10th year and what a wonderful experience it has been. With all the ups and down’s that a business goes through we are still here and stronger than ever. Lanna Muay Thai Canada opened its doors on December 2nd, 2005 and almost a decade later, there is still one thing that separates us from the rest…Community.
Most of us spend our lives searching for something to belong to, something that we can connect with. Belonging is primal and is fundamental to our sense of happiness and well being. Belonging is a psychological lever that has broad consequences, writes Walton. Our interests, motivation, health and happiness are inextricably tied to the feeling that we belong to a greater community that may share common interests and aspirations. (Amanda Enayati, special to CNN June 1st 2012).
Many studies and much research has been conducted on the topic of belonging and the effects it has on humans. That is why it has always been at the forefront of Lanna’s mission to always provide a place where people can come and feel like a family.
Fighting arts and sports are plagued with negative media attention suggesting that they are angry young men and women full of egos participating. Well, the one thing I can say is that you will not find that at Lanna MMA. It is interesting that although a Martial Arts school is still a business and runs the same like any business, there is an aspect of it that is different than most. At the core of this business are its students and yet it is these same students that help in creating that family and assist the business by volunteering their time.
I have come to understand the importance of service and volunteer work and cannot emphasize enough that we all could be doing more for the human cause. The staff and instructors at Lanna believe that we are helping people become the better versions of themselves through the vehicle of martial arts.
For the first time ever Lanna MMA has partnered with Canadian Tire and the Jumpstart program that provides underprivileged children an opportunity to belong to a sports team. On August 16th, 2014 Lanna will hosting its 1st annual charity golf tournament at Bantys Roost Golf and Country Club.
